The most important thing we can provide for these children beyond stability is education. We now have children in pre-school, kindergarten, elementary, junior high, and high school. Where our girls used to be proud of their 40-50-60 grade-point averages, they now boast about averages in the 80s and 90s!

Adolescent Life Skills

Our girls need life skills to lead responsible, productive personal and professional lives. The girls receive guidance on reproductive health issues, the cost of living, using spare time to make things to sell, etc. The largest need here is for Mexican female mentors. In the tourism economy of San Miguel, the children will have limited career options if they cannot speak English. Centro-Mexicano, a language school in San Miguel, offers the Santa Julia girls English lessons at a discounted rate through the Gift of English program, a US nonprofit.
